Youth and Family

Here at High Desert we know that teaching spiritual principles to children requires humility, deep integrity--- and a great sense of humor! Our lessons are chosen to inspire and empower, and the atmosphere is positive and nurturing.

We acknowledge the sacred nature of our work with the youth. As we teach, we learn; as we bless, we are blessed, and our greatest goal is to remind the children—and ourselves--- that we are already One with God.

Youth Director: Elizabeth Summers

Youth Church - Sunday morning 10:00 a.m. - 11:05 a.m.  Held at the same time as our Sunday Services, this allows both parents and children to receive spiritual nourishment at their level.

Eva_and_Wyatt· Nursery: Infants through preschool. Opportunities for joyful play and social interaction, loving caregivers, and age-appropriate stories and activities based on our spiritual principles.

· Children’s Church: Grades K-4. Lessons, activities, music, and crafts teach spiritual principles and the virtues to our elementary –aged children.

· Tweens: Grades 5-7.  Creating sacred space to nurture kids as they move through the (sometimes unsettling) changes of these years, the emphasis is on choice, responsibility, and creating a joyful life.

Happy_teens· Teen Church: Grades 8-12. Our teen program brings spirituality into everyday life with spiritual practice and discussion of relevant topics in a safe, inclusive, non-judgmental atmosphere.

Each Sunday, after the service, the youth share with the congregation what they have learned that day.

What We Teach Our Children

Rites of Passage Program

Youth Education Department Core Values:

"All of our choices, decisions and actions are guided by these values: Love, Service, and Spiritual Integrity. “

The Word on HDCSL's Rites of Passage is Spreading!

On April 4, 2010, our Reverend Ginger Young and two of our Rites of Passage graduates - Alanna Jornigan and Keith Sutton, Jr. gave beautiful and moving testimony to the power of the Rites of Passage program in an interview on KUNM's Youth Radio Program. Many thanks to KUNM and Lucia Rael (interviewer) for providing a forum for sharing.  Click here to download and listen to the entire interview.
